Employee Spotlight: Damien
It’s safe to say that without Damien, things at Digital Media Team wouldn’t be running so smoothly. Most likely to say “Have you tried turning it on and off again?”, Damo is our chief tinkerer and resident tech head. We caught up with him following his two-year anniversary with the company to find out how he finds life with DMT.
Hi Damien. Can you tell us a bit about your position at DMT?
I provide all the support for the day to day running of Hardware, Software and occasionally sourcing new tech for us to use in our everyday running of the company.
What attracted you to the company?
I originally joined our mother company ECall Connect doing SEO, but once Digital Media Team was set up, I wanted the opportunity to be part of the team.
What kind of challenges do you face in your role?
Oh my, staff can be silly at times, I mean it’s the old scenario of “there’s no internet”, and after discussing options for half an hour them telling you they can’t see the router as it’s too dark due to the power being of in the office… Okay, so it’s not that bad, but there has been times when I go to rectify an issue with the printer to find out that the laptop is connected to the wrong network, and this is after asking to check if they are on the correct one!
What’s the best bit about your role?
My job is never the same, each day is unique with a new challenge and that’s the way i like to work.
What’s been your favourite project to work on so far?
I can’t say I have a favourite project, my job involves a lot of research – I suppose I like to do that more than anything else, but this is something that occurs frequently whenever we need to invest in new technology.
If you were a social media platform, which one would you be and why?
Pinterest, full of ideas some good some not so good, I have a lot of useful knowledge and also a lot of useless knowledge, plus I’m a visual-based individual rather than a text-based mind, I can remember details based on how they look rather than what text goes with it.
Finally, what advice would you give to anyone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Do this job because you love to help people and you love problem solving, if you do this for any other reason you’ll not like it and will easily get annoyed by every little thing. Also you need a great amount of patience.
