Employee Spotlight: Tom

Tom Smith Digital Media Team

Digital Media Team’s resident southerner joined our family at the end of 2017, so we’ve given him some time to settle in before putting him under the spotlight. During his time with the company so far Tom’s made quite the impression, dressed up as an elf, and has even been crowned the ‘Best Pool Player in the Office’. Let’s see how he’s finding his new position!

Can you tell us a bit about your position at DMT?

I handle our inSurge accounts ensuring that they are running smoothly and are connecting to the correct people on LinkedIn to benefit their companies.

What attracted you to the company?

Initially the idea of working for a company that deals in social media really appealed to me, I’ve spent enough time scrolling aimlessly through Facebook and Twitter etc to develop an interest in different aspects of working with social media so to work for a company that deals with such sites definitely drew me in.

What kind of challenges do you face in your role?

When our servers aren’t running smoothly it causes me a bit of an issue as it makes running our product a lot more difficult. But being southern here does get me a lot of stick so I think going through a day without getting some stick for being from the south is my biggest challenge.

What’s the best bit about your role?

Working on LinkedIn so much is probably the best bit about the role. I am constantly learning more about different industries and how different companies can benefit each other through being so active on LinkedIn myself now. For me that’s the best part of my role being able to learn more about something because it’s helped to boost my confidence.

What’s been your favourite project to work on so far?

So far I have only worked on our inSurge product so I guess my favourite project has to be inSurge. But I am looking forward to developing myself in more aspects of the company so hopefully I can get on board with some more projects in the new year.

If you were a social media platform, which one would you be and why?

I would be Facebook because I can do a little bit of everything but not everyone likes me….

Finally, what advice would you give to anyone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Don’t let your experience (or lack of) decide what job you do. If you see a job opportunity that you want, go for it.

Great advice! We’ll catch up with Tom and the team as 2018 progresses. You can read more about our innovative inSurge service here.
