Ten Memes to Brighten Your Weekend

This year has had its fair share of bad news, with the coronavirus (get well soon, Tom Hanks!), the death of Kobe and the Australian Bushfires. dmt are not only experts in all things social media but we’re also here to brighten your weekend through memes.

Everyone loves a good meme if you’re saying you’ve not exhaled through your nose loudly on the morning commute at least once at one – you’re lying. Every week we are introduced to the new picture or text post that will have us laughing at our desks even days later. Saying that they aren’t just used for humour. They are also used as a form of communication. For example:

We also have an oldie but a goodie that has made the rounds again recently. It is perhaps one of the most infuriating moments that’s happened to us all. At least we can take solace in the fact we’re not alone in this.

Queen Dolly Parton created her own meme. Dubbed, rather creatively, The Dolly Parton meme. This proved once and for all that we really do have very different personas when it comes to social media. Instagram you is a whole different person to LinkedIn you. We even made a dmt #dollypartonchallenge version involving our Ben.

Then the whole broom thing happened. Millions of people around the world decided to take part in what was dubbed the #broomchallenge. Apparently, due to the gravitational pull on that certain day we were able to stand brooms up on their own. NASA themselves ended up releasing a statement saying you can do it at any time of the year. If you just got up to try, don’t worry – so did we when we read this.

The Oscars are well known for three thing: glitz, glamour and memes galore. The 2020 awards were no different. We were blessed with Bong Joon Ho looking lovingly at his award, Billie Eilish reacting to Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig’s musical medley with iconic facial expressions and people comparing Timothée Chalamet’s Prada outfit to some… rather questionable people.

Which Disney character are you? Which Star Wars character would you be? The list goes on and on. Face filters have come back with a vengeance through Instagram. We even saw one where you found out what kind of Bondobust meal you’d be. Now that is certainly niche to say the least.

This one sort of came from nowhere: the 6”1 Ice Age Baby that scared the crap out of everyone that came across it. The most hated animated character from movie history. Where did he come from? Why is he over six foot? Is he dangerous? We have a lot of unanswered questions…

The poet and the poem meme has taken the internet by storm The idea being, you take an iconic quote from someone and place it next to an image of the person. After the Netflix show Sex Education came out every single person was heading straight to their computer to type out the words “wash your hands, you detty pig.” Thanks, coronavirus. Thanks, Eric.

We don’t know how else to describe this one other than: adorable. How else would you celebrate winning two oscars?

Baby Yoda was the gift nobody asked for but loved nonetheless. When it was paired with the image of Adam Driver (😍) from A Marriage Story… the chickie nuggie meme was born.

Bernie Sanders is once again asking for your financial support. This meme can be fitted into so many conversations. Can’t afford to go on holiday? You’re asking for financial support. Can’t get lunch? Financial support is needed. Thank you Bernie.
