Our content team has been busy recently, between our content marketing, SEO and social media management services, to the wonderful Ruby becoming our content manager, to welcoming the lovely Polly to our team! We sat down with her for a chat about what brought her to Digital Media Team. Give it a read below…
The Work Stuff 📈
Tell us a little bit about your role on the content team here at DMT.
As a content writer, I help write the copy for our various clients. This can be anything from our paid social and PPC ads, email newsletters and adverts, blogs, even their social media posts!
Tell us about your background. What led you to this career/industry?
I have a postgraduate degree in languages and former experience working in communications, social media management, and digital marketing. I had always had a love for writing but wasn’t sure how I could turn it into a career. However, after doing some volunteer writing and working on a social media team for a start-up, I soon discovered that content writing was definitely my bag. Not long after I started freelance copywriting, I found the perfect role for me here at DMT.
What is something unique that you think you bring to the content team?
Coming from a languages background, I believe I have an equally analytical and creative approach to writing. Obsessively learning grammatical structures at uni left me with an extensive understanding of all the intricate ins and outs of language. On the other hand, having conversations in foreign languages has taught me to think on my feet and not to be afraid to play with words.
What’s something you’d like your colleagues to know about you?
I swear I’m not mean, I just have resting bitch face!
The Personal Stuff 👩💻
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Supportive, witty, feminist.
What’s your favourite cultural moment of the past year and why?
Tiger King. It was just absurd. I still catch myself saying ‘hello all you cats and kittens’ on the regs.
What’s your hobby or passion project outside of work?
I am a bit rubbish at spending my spare time productively, but when I do put time into my hobbies I like to play the drums, read, and cook. I also like to practice some witchcraft; I mainly play with crystals, light candles, and compliment the moon.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Harry Styles – I don’t know what it is about him but I am obsessed with every move he makes. And the reason this is a guilty pleasure for me is that his bubblegum vibe doesn’t really fit into the gothy, grunge aesthetic I’ve built over the years.
What causes are you supportive of, and why?
Hmm, this was a tough one but I have to choose Greyhound Protection UK. After adopting an ex-racing greyhound, Kenny, in August 2020, I support all charities which help rehabilitate and rehome dogs that have been made to race or hunt. However, I chose GPUK in particular because they have taken a firm anti-racing stance and they frequently petition against the abuse and exploitation of these dogs.
The Fun Stuff 🥂
Where can we find the best coffee in the Northern Quarter?
Technically not NQ, but Ancoats General Store Cafe. Great coffee, lovely staff and delicious vegan baked goods.
If you were a social media platform, who would you be and why?
Instagram because it’s visually appealing, full of vegan recipes, and kind of pretentious, just like me.
Who would be your five dream dinner party guests, dead or alive?
Frida Kahlo, Joan Jett, Freddie Mercury, Gloria Steinem, Lizzo. It would be one helluvva night.
Quickfire Qs 🎯
What are you watching?
I’m currently being forced to watch the entirety of Star Wars by my other half. Wish me luck.
What are you reading?
‘El Comensal’ by Gabriel Ybarra – it’s about the political killing of a Basque politician from the 1970s. It was either that or reread Twilight.
What are you listening to?
‘My Dad Wrote A Porno’ on Spotify – it’s probably THE funniest podcast that has ever existed. I’m the biggest Belinda Blinked stan.
Who are you ignoring?
Who are you following?
goth_egg on insta. She’s got a legendary mullet, incredible eyeliner skills, and a corset collection. Need I say more?
Thank you so much for sharing a few minutes with us, Polly! With your languages background, we can’t wait to see what amazing content you bring with you to the team.
