Our team just keeps on expanding! Today we’re chatting to our first ever web developer, Martyna. She’s been with us a few weeks now and is settling in nicely. Read on to find out more about her!
Tell us about your role at DMT.
DMT have started their new web development department, and I am delighted I could join the team! My daily duties cover setting up, designing and creating websites for our clients. I take on full projects, right from the start- from setting up a domain until the final tests and the website going live.
What attracted you to the company?
Web development has always been my true passion, and I was craving a wider variety of clients. When I found out about DMT setting up a new web department, I didn’t hesitate to apply for the role, and I was over the moon when I received the position. Being able to do the job I love is one thing, but on the top of that DMT attracted me with their beautiful office, amazing location, an impressive portfolio, and a caring attitude that I experienced right from the start, during the interview process and everything that followed.
Tell us something special you think you bring to the role.
I think I bring some new web dev and design skills to the role, and I look forward to using them in upcoming projects.
What kind of challenges do you face in your role?
Definitely a lot more back-end server work. Previously I was very heavily front-end focused. Since starting at DMT, my skill in back-end web development has grown a lot as I was challenged with server issues pretty much every day! I was pulling my hair out, but at the end of the day, the issues were resolved, and I gained more relevant knowledge.
What has been the highlight of your experience so far?
Practising more back-end website stuff! I already feel a lot more confident with it now.
If you were a social media platform, what would you be and why?
Definitely WhatsApp. I am a minimalist; I really like how it’s simple and does exactly what it is supposed to do, doesn’t have any crazy features, all it does is connect people and let them exchange messages, photos and videos.
Where do you think the best cup of coffee in Northern Quarter is from?
I still need to find a place!
What advice would you give to others looking to be a Web Developer?
The best way to learn new skills, especially in web dev, is to be thrown in at the deep end. If you are a beginner, take many projects and watch yourself progress with each one.
Thanks so much for the insight into web development, Martyna! We’re really excited to see what you bring to DMT in the coming months.
