1. Shop at The Corn Exchange
The Corn Exchange is a Grade 1 listed structure, and a vibrant shopping centre situated in one of Britain’s finest Victorian buildings. By championing some of the most innovative and creative independent retail stores, the Corn Exchange offers a unique shopping experience for those looking for something different. They also host events, including gin festivals and even a ping pong fight club!
2. Hyde Park Picture House
The wonderful Hyde Park Picture House was opened in 1914, and over 100 years later remains a hub for art house cinema. To this day it still holds many of its original features, including an ornate balcony and external box office. It’s also the only remaining gas lit cinema in the UK. Its varied programme features art house movies and blockbuster films, as well as the occasional musical performance. If you’re in the Hyde Park area, we highly recommend a visit to what’s hailed as ‘the cosiest cinema in Leeds’!
3. Tropical World
Tropical World is a popular zoo and aquarium situated in Roundhay Park. The family attraction offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the habitats of the tropics in the heart of Leeds, and its curious residents include crocodiles, butterflies, bats, snakes and meerkats. Roundhay Park itself is one of the largest parks in Europe, boasting over 700 acres of parkland, lakes, woodland and gardens.
4. Watch Leeds United
Whilst in Leeds, you could always pop down to Elland Road to watch Leeds United play. The team has one of the most prolific histories in English football, and currently play in the Championship. At the time of writing they are sitting in 4th position in the league, so football fans in Leeds and beyond will be hoping for a fine run of form and a promotion in the near future!
5. Northern Monk Brewing Co
Northern Monk Brew Co can be found at The Old Flax Store in Marshalls Mill, which also acts as a base to showcase like-minded brands and creatives. The clever brewers also work closely with charitable organisations and local businesses, helping strengthen the north for positive change.
