3 Best Liverpool Bars For After-Work Drinks

Social media management for Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Instagram.

’Tis the season to be jolly, so the DMT team got thinking and listed our three favourite Liverpool bars for after-work drinks. The city is teeming with great venues of all shapes and sizes and to suit all tastes. Whether you’re after a quiet cocktail or a rowdy evening with live music, you won’t be short of choice. If you want to spend some quality time with your workmates this festive season, here are three fantastic bars to try out. Let’s go!

1. Maya

Underground cocktail bar Maya can be found beneath Lucha Libre on Wood Street, and the subterranean haven is an absolute treat for tequila lovers. Rocking a Dia De Los Muertos vibe, Maya is dark and dangerous, with private booths hidden away behind steel bars, stools wearing saddles, sugar skulls and neon crosses. There’s no food here, so if you’re peckish grab some street food in Lucha Libre then head downstairs for some debauchery. If you’re a true fan of all things Mexican, you have to try the Jalapeno Margarita. You might have a sore head in the morning though.

2. Alma de Cuba

This one’s pretty special. Alma de Cuba is perhaps Liverpool’s most spectacular restaurant and bar, set inside the stunning conversion of the former St Peter’s Catholic Church. With an absolutely breathtaking interior that features towering pillars, chandeliers and the original church altar intact, the venue is a great choice for classy after-work drinks. The vibe during the week is chilled out, in comparison to the weekend when a strict dress code is enforced. As the name suggests, there’s a latin flavour on offer here, so stick with the theme and enjoy a mojito or capirinha.

3. Bierkeller

If you’re after something a little more rough around the edges, you can’t go wrong with Bierkeller. The informal long bench seating makes it ideal for large groups, so you don’t have to worry about finding a place to sit. With live sporting events, ice cold steins of beer and delicious German food, it’s a great choice for some after-work bevvies. The only problem is, you’ll struggle to stay for just one. If you’re on the beer, you can’t not enjoy a Currywurst with it – this traditional German streetfood combines ketchup, mustard, crispy onions and frankfurter sausage. Perfect.
