3 Best Manchester Bars For After-Work Drinks

Social media management for Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Instagram.

’Tis the season to be jolly so we thought we’d round up our three favourite Manchester bars for after-work drinks with your colleagues. The city-centre is awash with brilliant venues, so there’s no shortage of choice no matter what kind of vibe you’re after. From run-of-the-mill boozers to lavish cocktail bars, Manchester has it all. We’ve picked three laid-back bars that are perfect if you want to kick back with your workmates and enjoy some festive spirit. Let’s get started.

1. All Star Lanes

We had to include All Star Lanes as it’s the DMT staple for our Christmas party! It’s also one of our favourite venues in town thanks to it’s funky decor, great soundtrack and delicious menu. Oh, and you can bowl too, obviously. Why not rent out the Presidential Lanes for some after-work competition? Bowling is the ultimate team-building activity, and a great way to let off some steam after a heavy day in the office. All Star’s bar is up there with the finest in town, with a great selection of beers and spirits giving you plenty to choose from. You HAVE to try a Pickle Back – the combination of whiskey and pickle juice might sound a bit far out but it’s an absolute treat!

2. The Pen and Pencil

The Pen and Pencil is perfect for marketing types, as the Hilton Street venue takes its name and inspiration from the infamous mid-20th Century New York bar that was popular with the original ‘Mad Men’. 1950s chic meets NYC street-style in this cool venue, which offers the perfect atmosphere for early-evening drinks. You’ll have plenty of options when it comes to refreshments – and with all cocktails priced at £8, it’s not too heavy on the pocket. Tequila fans should go for the Mexican Queens – you might find it hard to stop at just one though. A huge sub menu makes for the perfect accompaniment if you’re feeling peckish. If you see yourself as a modern day Don Draper, this is the bar for you.

3. Cane & Grain

One of the NQ’s big boys, Cane & Grain is a chilled out venue with three floors of delicious possibilities. The Thomas Street bar is famous for its rum, ribs, bourbon and beer, as you can smell when you walk in the door. The downstairs Rib Joint & Tap Room is very laid-back, whereas the middle-floor Science & industry bar offers a more high-end option, with table service and cucumber water on top. On the third floor there’s the Liars Lounge tiki bar, if you make it that far. With a wide cocktail menu and a great choice of beer on tap, you won’t be short of choice if you’re thirsty. It’d be rude not to pair your drink with some bar bites – who can resist mac & cheese anyway?
