Funniest Football Accounts on Social Media

As Wayne Rooney’s transfer from the Premier League to DC United is announce and Everton fans breathe a collective sigh of relief, we thought it was a great time to round up the best (and worst) football accounts on social media.

First up, we couldn’t not include Southampton FC’s Twitter, after they sassed the Swansea Marriott Hotel following a blunder with their booking earlier this week. In a thinly-veiled attempt to sabotage the Saints, the Marriott cancelled their booking before their clash with the relegation-faced Swans. It didn’t work, with the Saints the 1-0 victors. Nice try though.

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has quickly become a favourite on Twitter thanks to his light-hearted tweeting style. Highlights include calling out teammate Kyle Walker for diving and joking about his ‘cheeky’ Nando’s parking fine. Keep the tweets coming, Benjamin!

James Milner’s reliable midfield style and dour Yorkshire attitude sparked the creation of the Boring James Milner Twitter account, and this label has stuck. Credit to Milner, he’s played along with the stereotype, and joined Twitter five years after his boring alter ego did. He definitely gets points for laughing at himself following his hilarious own goal versus Roma.

Patrice Evra’s feel-good Instagram will bring a smile to the face of even the most cynical football fan, as he uploads regular videos of him singing and shouting ‘I LOVE THIS GAME’. Highlights include ironing to Barry White, his anti-racism panda and pulling a Jeep after having his contract terminated by Marseille for that Cantona-style kick.

Also, who could forget this absolute gem from Romelu Lukaku?

It’s been a whirlwind season, let’s hope the World Cup throws up some hilarious social media moments!
