Let’s kick off the new year with a deep dive into the life of one of our newest employees, Darren! Our newest PPC Exec is ready to share all his marketing know-how, photography skills and help cut the stigmatism on mental health.

The Work Stuff 📈

Tell us about your background. What led you to PPC?

I come from a marketing background, attaining a Bachelors degree in Marketing from Liverpool University and previously working as a freelance photographer for a modelling agency.

What led me down the path of digital marketing was my creative side & curiosity to learn how companies sell a product or service to a mass market. In my Business Studies course at college, I began to learn more about the broader areas of marketing, from traditional offline channels in Out-of-House marketing to online channels of digital marketing.

I also have a knack for data problem solving, such as foreseeing trends/causes to the effect that presents itself. It’s a challenge, but I like to be challenged in these areas as it makes my job more fulfilling. I take great pride and passion in achieving that in my role.

What is something unique that you think you bring to the role?

I’d say my creative skills as a professional photographer/editor and my agency experience working in digital marketing for the past two years. I’m a jack of all trades, with skills in beauty re-touching & editing in photoshop, through to PPC copy and account admin from my time at a previous agency.

As a result, working at DMT in an executive role managing client relationships, I feel confident knowing I have these skills in my locker. Providing a well-rounded service in scaling up accounts and being a solid team player is great, and I’m looking forward to learning and growing within the role.

What’s something you want your colleagues to know about you?

I can spin a basketball in my hand.

The Personal Stuff 👨‍💻

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

Loyal, trustworthy, compassionate.

What’s your favourite cultural moment from the last year and why?

The Weeknd’s half-time Super-Bowl performance going viral. With the rise of Tik-Tok, everything is suddenly becoming parodied and talked about for the next week or so.

It shows how we’re divulging mainstream media with streaming platforms and on-demand content. People are always looking for instant gratification and the next viral moment. Turning what was meant to be a half-time music performance for the masses into a Tik-Tok challenge.

This is golden material for those fast enough to capitalise on the trend. From a marketing perspective, it’s a critical strategy for marketing content in the future. I think instant content will only become more popular and the main driver of social media marketing.

What’s your hobby or passion project outside of work?

I’m currently freelancing outside of work as a photographer helping build out models portfolios, including my own. I’ve gotten more involved in fashion photography since turning professional and looking forward to getting more involved in the future.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Drinking from the carton when it’s almost empty.

What causes are you supportive of, and why?

Mental health awareness is a cause I’m highly supportive of. I’ve suffered from high-function anxiety myself since my late teens and believe more should be done to combat its stigmatism. In the future, I hope people become more aware of mental health issues and learn to be more compassionate towards others in day-to-day society.
