It’s official. The stars have landed in our city for the 2023/24 Chanel Metiérs d’Art show, and it’s got everyone buzzing.

The annual Metiérs d’Art show, which means “Master of Art”, is an annual fashion event held by Chanel in a different city each year. Last year’s took place in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, before being revisited in Tokyo, Japan.

And now the show has arrived in the thirtieth coolest neighbourhood on the planet, Manchester’s Northern Quarter, bringing with it some of the biggest names in the world of fashion and culture.

Why did Chanel choose Manchester for their fashion show?

Manchester has long been known for its thriving textile industry, as well as being the unofficial fashion capital of the UK. We’ve had, and continue to have, plenty of Manchester-based fashion clients over the years, and giants like Nasty Gal, Boohoo and Pretty Little Thing all base their headquarters in and around the city. Manchester has always been seen as the cultural hub of the North, and is considered an alternative to London as a place of underground culture. The arts, music, film and television have long thrived here, and Chanel’s recent video for the collection has perfectly captured the culture of our incredible city.

Where can I watch the Chanel fashion show?

While the show is taking place tonight (Thursday 7th December 2023) between 5-8pm, it’s looking like the only people who’ll be able to see it live are those invitees. It’s even been rumoured that NQ locals have allegedly been instructed to install blackout curtains in order not to see the show. However, Chanel has confirmed that a film of the show will be released at 9am on Friday, 8th December.

Who will be at the Manchester Chanel fashion show?

There have been plenty of stars spotted in and around the city already, with more reports coming in as the day progresses. Kristen Stewart was among the first spotted at the pre-show party at the iconic Salford Lad’s Club, along with Doctor Who and Wilderness star Jenna Coleman.

In addition to reports of Gigi Hadid allegedly visiting the Market Street Primark, Kate Moss (or, more likely, a good Kate Moss lookalike) was spotted in Ancoats’ Urban Village Aldi, before heading to a coffee shop nearby with a massive Bag for Life.
