The Best Memes of 2023 so Far

Anyone who’s anyone loves a good meme or two. So, we thought we’d put together a list of our favourite memes of 2023 so far (in no particular order)! Sit back, grab a cuppa and have a little scroll.

Barbie is Everything

With the highly-anticipated Barbie the Movie set for release this month, it’s becoming almost impossible to scroll through socials without seeing anything Barbie-related. The love for pink is soaring, the Ken-ergy is rising, the memes are going wild - and we couldn't be happier.

Rihanna’s Half-Time Show

Rihanna performing at the Super Bowl has become the most-watched half-time performance of all time. Marking her first performance in five years, a record-breaking 121 million viewers tuned in to watch her medley of hits.

However, it was her dancers who seemingly stole the show, and naturally, the internet took to creating their own memes. Being compared to everything from Oompa Loompas to white blood cells, the dancers really stepped into the limelight.

Gwenyth Paltrow’s Skiing Trial

Everyone’s favourite broth-eating problematic queen became a viral sensation, surprisingly not for being the CEO of Goop, the home of the vagina-scented candle, but for being caught in the middle of a skiing scandal.

After being accused of crashing into someone on the slopes, it was difficult to take it all seriously as memes from her televised trial took over the social sphere, and not just because of her 10/10 courtroom wardrobe. Almost mockumentary-worthy, it caught the world’s attention; after all, poor Gwen “lost half a day of skiing”.

If you were a fan of the trial, keep your eyes peeled for the TV documentary, ‘Gwyneth vs Terry: The Ski Crash Trial’, which is set to be in the works.

Throwing Things at P!nk

As far as memes go, we didn’t predict having things being thrown at P!nk become a trend. What started off as an innocent wheel of cheese smuggled into a concert (we’re still unsure how and why), turned into an unstoppable game.

Naturally, the incident fell into the hands of the internet, and some great memes came from it. Before we knew it, everything from dishwashers to a priceless imperial Fabergé egg that had been missing since the fall of the Romanov dynasty in 1917 was photoshopped onto P!nk, and we love it.

Ariana DeBose’s Bafta Rap

This year, the Baftas were exposed to its most confusing performance of all time. West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose left everyone stuck for words after performing a rap which celebrated, by name, this year’s female nominees.

We can confirm that ‘Angela Bassett did the thing’ played continuously on loop in our heads for way too long afterwards.

Pedro Pascal

The Last of Us star, Pedro Pascal, became the internet’s crush overnight and naturally resulted in being the meme of the moment. Clips of Pedro sitting in a car laughing and eating a sandwich left viewers gripped, and there’s no sign of these memes dying down anytime soon.

Jennifer Coolidge in White Lotus

Iconic as ever, Jennifer Coolidge has made her big comeback in Hollywood and the social sphere. Starring in the White Lotus, her scenes went viral, and her iconic line became the internet’s favourite meme.

Jennifer Lawrence on Hot Ones

@karmaisthatgirl buying concert tickets is so stressful for what 😭 like are u reloading bc my purchase was confirmed or are u gonna take me back to the ‘pick ur seats’ page #fyp #jenniferlawrence #jenniferlawrenceedit #firstwefeast #hotwings #concert #concerts #liveconcert #ticket #tickets #buyingtickets #ticketmaster #the1975 #the1975live ♬ jennifer lawrence hot ones what do you mean - Firstwefeast

Jennifer Lawrence starred in Hot Ones and was inevitably defeated by spicy hot wing sauce. Holding back sauce-induced tears, the actress’s panicked ‘what do you mean’ is all over TikTok and Instagram reels.

There we have it, our definitive list of the best memes of 2023 so far! We hope you’ve had as much fun reliving these funny viral moments as we did, and no doubt there will be plenty more to come before we see the year through.
