When Taylor Swift announced the Eras Tour in November 2022, it’s safe to say she broke the internet. Everyone’s inner Swiftie came out, and everyone got just that little bit more feral at the thought of fighting tooth and nail for a ticket, us included.
Spanning five continents and consisting of 152 shows (so far), it’s become the first tour in history to surpass $1 billion, making it the highest-grossing tour of all time.
Since 2019, Ms Swift has released eight albums, including her re-records and her most recent album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. The demand for tickets became so unprecedented that Ticketmaster was sued for dynamically hiking prices and not being able to cope with the requests.
With the UK shows in full swing, we’ve taken a look at Taylor Swift’s impact on the economy and fashion brands tuning into the trend with Eras Tour-inspired outfits.
The Eras Tour & The Economy
This month, the Eras Tour arrived in the UK, and much like the other countries she’s visited, the economy has witnessed a huge increase. By the time the UK leg of the tour concludes in London, it’s estimated that the economy will be boosted by almost £1 billion, and fans are spending an average of £848 during the tour (a combination of ticket prices, outfits, accommodation and hospitality).
To commemorate her arrival, UK cities are going all out. Liverpool already rolled out the red carpet and announced that for a Fortnight only, they’ll transform into ‘Taylor Town’ (Lover-pool was right there, but we’ll let it slide) to give her a proper Scouse welcome. And other UK cities are also hosting Taylor Swift-themed events.
The Eras Tour & Fashion Brands
With the Eras Tour now heading to Cardiff, Dublin, and Wembley Stadium, well-known fashion brands have begun putting their hats in the ring with Eras-themed outfits. Search results across Google have skyrocketed, and ‘Taylor Swift’ is continuously appearing in the top 10 search terms.
